What is a benign breast condition?
A benign breast condition is a non-cancerous condition; the breast change is not malignant. Generally a benign condition does not require treatment.

What benign breast conditions could be present?
There are several benign conditions which could be present.

The first group of conditions generally requires no treatment, but it is advisable that you maintain Breast Awareness. These conditions include:

• Fibroadenomas
• Cysts
• Fibrocystic disease
• Benign Microcalcifications (BreastScreen Victoria)

Some benign conditions have an increased risk of developing into breast cancer at a later stage and therefore should be monitored closely. These include:

• Radial Scar (BreastScreen Victoria)
• Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia (BreastScreen Victoria)
• Lobular Carcinoma In Situ (BreastScreen Victoria)
