Treatment
Care Pathway
Every breast cancer treatment care pathway is individually designed,
taking into consideration both the pathology results and the requirements
of the woman with breast cancer.
When treating early breast cancer there are two aims:
- to cure the disease and
- to maintain and improve a woman’s quality of life
These two aims must be balanced against each other. As a woman progresses
through her treatment and additional tests are performed, it may be
necessary for her to reconsider her treatment care pathway, especially
in light of these aims. What is important is that the woman with breast
cancer and those close to her are entitled to as much information
as they need in order to make an informed decision.
The National Breast Cancer Centre (NBCC) has produced
an information booklet for people needing to understand early breast
cancer and its treatment: “All about early breast cancer”. Find out
how to access this booklet in our Resources / Booklets
section.
